Raiffeisenbank Term Deposit: Fixed-Rate Certainty for Both Small and Large Sums

A term deposit is a classic, conservative savings tool that offers a fixed interest rate for a set period — a good fit for savers who want their money to grow without any risk of the rate changing and who don't need ongoing access to the funds. Raiffeisenbank's offer stands out for the wide range of amounts it accepts and its availability in three currencies.

Interest Rate

Raiffeisenbank guarantees an interest rate of up to 2.50% per year, fixed for the entire term of the deposit. This top rate applies to the most favourable, three-year term — the bank's website also links to a detailed overview of interest rates covering shorter terms, but it does not publish the specific figures for those shorter tiers on its main overview page, so we are not quoting numbers we cannot verify. If you are considering a term shorter than three years, expect the actual rate on offer to be lower than the headline 2.50%.

The rate is fixed for the whole term of the deposit, so there is no risk of it being reduced (or increased) partway through — this is the main advantage a term deposit has over a variable-rate savings account.

Terms and Fees

The deposit can be opened with as little as CZK 10,000, up to a maximum of CZK 30 million — for larger amounts, the bank offers individually negotiated rates. The deposit is available in three currencies: CZK, EUR and USD, which is useful for clients who want to grow savings in a foreign currency without opening an account at a separate institution.

Clients can withdraw up to 20% of the deposited amount free of charge during the term — a real advantage over deposits that only allow access to funds once the agreed term ends. According to the bank's published information, withdrawing more than this, or cancelling the deposit early in full, is subject to penalties under the bank's current fee schedule — the exact penalty amount is not stated on the general overview page, so we recommend checking it before signing the contract.

Clients can choose between a one-off deposit (without automatic renewal) or automatic renewal once the agreed term ends. As with all deposits at Czech banks, deposits are covered by statutory deposit insurance up to the equivalent of EUR 100,000 per client.

How to Open the Deposit

Clients who already hold a current account with Raiffeisenbank can open the term deposit online directly through internet banking. If you don't yet have an account with the bank, you first need to open one (also online) before setting up the deposit. The deposit can also be opened in person at any branch.

Pros and Cons

  • High guaranteed rate of up to 2.50% p.a. for the three-year term
  • High deposit ceiling — up to CZK 30 million, with individual rates above that
  • Available in three currencies (CZK, EUR, USD)
  • Free withdrawal of up to 20% of the deposit during the term
  • The 2.50% rate applies only to the longest, three-year term, not to shorter options
  • Rates for shorter deposit terms are not published on the main overview page
  • Withdrawing beyond the free 20% is subject to penalties
  • The CZK 10,000 minimum deposit is not the lowest on the market

Summary

Raiffeisenbank's term deposit is a solid choice for clients who want to place a larger portion of their savings for the longer, three-year term at a guaranteed rate of up to 2.50% per year, while retaining partial access to their money (up to 20% free of charge). For short-term savings or smaller amounts, a savings account with more flexible access and no early-withdrawal penalty may be the better option.
