Fio Savings Account: a flat 3% rate with no tiers or conditions

The Fio savings account from Fio banka is a savings product for both individuals and companies who want to keep reserves or savings separate from their current account, without having to deal with a complicated tiered interest structure based on balance, or a time-limited promotional rate. Unlike many other savings accounts on the market, there is no threshold above which the rate drops, and no conditions such as a minimum number of card payments or regular account activity to meet — it is a simple product with a single, clear rate that applies to the whole balance. It suits both a short-term financial reserve and saving larger sums, since the rate does not change with the amount deposited.

Interest rate

The bank offers a flat interest rate of 3.00% p.a., applied to the entire deposit amount regardless of whether you hold CZK 10,000 or CZK 1,000,000 in the account — there is no balance tier above which the rate for this product decreases. The same rate applies to legal entities as well, so companies and sole traders can open the account, not just private individuals. Fio banka does not tie the rate to any special condition, such as a minimum number of card transactions or new-client status — it is a plain rate for holding savings, paid equally to every account holder, whether on the first thousand crowns or on a substantially larger sum.

Conditions and fees

Opening, maintaining and closing the Fio savings account are free of charge, as are incoming and outgoing payments. However, the product is also simplified in what you cannot do with it: the number of outgoing payments or cash withdrawals is limited to two per month, the account cannot be set up for SIPO (Czech utility-payment collection), standing orders or direct debit, and the bank does not issue a debit card for it. If you need to withdraw cash at a branch, the minimum withdrawal is CZK 1,000.

One practical condition worth noting: if you are not yet a Fio banka client, opening a savings account requires you to open a current account with the bank at the same time — the savings account cannot be opened on its own, without any existing relationship with the bank. Existing Fio banka clients naturally skip this step, since they already have a current account and simply add the savings account to it.

This detail about the mandatory current account for new clients may not be obvious from a short product description at first glance, so it is worth keeping in mind if you are not yet a Fio banka client and the savings account would be your first product with this bank. On the other hand, no other hidden condition tied to earning the stated rate is listed on the bank's pages — the rate is not linked to an initial deposit amount or to a minimum savings period.

Summary

The Fio savings account is a straightforward product for individuals and companies who want to deposit savings at a flat rate of 3.00% p.a. on the entire balance, regardless of how much money is held, and without conditions tied to account activity. Opening and maintenance are free. The price for this simplicity is a set of operational limits — only two outgoing payments or cash withdrawals per month, no debit card on the account, no option to set up SIPO or standing orders, and, for new clients, the need to open a current account at the same time. For clients who are primarily after simple, transparent interest on a reserve or savings regardless of size, this is a solid choice — as long as the mentioned limits on payments and withdrawals are not a dealbreaker.
