Fio Banka Business Account: Overview
Fio banka's business account is one of the simplest business accounts on the Czech market. Instead of complex packages and conditions, it offers one main selling point: completely free account maintenance, regardless of turnover, number of transactions, or the amount of monthly payments. It's aimed at freelancers, sole traders (OSVČ) and smaller companies looking for an everyday payment account without unnecessary fees and without having to check every month whether they've met the conditions for a fee waiver.
Fees and account maintenance
Fio banka states that both opening and maintaining this account come with no conditions attached — genuinely free, not just free up to a certain turnover or a minimum number of monthly payments, as is common with competing business accounts. The bank provides two payment cards free of charge: a first Visa card and a first Mastercard. This means a business can pay with both of the most widely accepted card schemes without paying an extra issuance fee for either.
Cash withdrawals and payments
Withdrawals from Fio banka's own ATMs are free, which is fairly standard among online banks. Fio goes further, however: with the issued Visa card, cash can be withdrawn from any ATM in the Czech Republic or abroad, unlimited and free of charge. Compared to standard practice elsewhere, this is a genuine step above the norm, since foreign withdrawals are typically charged a percentage of the amount withdrawn or a flat per-transaction fee at other banks.
The bank takes an equally generous approach to payments. Transfers within Fio banka are free and unlimited, as are payments between the Czech Republic and Slovakia made in euros. So-called Europayments — euro payments to SEPA countries — are also free, and now available in an instant regime too, meaning funds can reach the recipient within seconds rather than the standard next-business-day settlement. For payments in currencies other than the euro, the bank's website does not state specific rates, only promising "favourable terms" in general. The exact cost of such a payment should therefore be checked in the current price list before sending it, especially for larger amounts.
Overdraft and other features
A business overdraft can be arranged on the account with no fee for setting it up or for renewing it later. The interest rate starts from 5% per year — the word "from" signals that this is the lowest possible rate, and the actual rate a given business or sole trader receives will depend on the bank's individual assessment of their creditworthiness.
Among the digital services, the account offers online banking with unlimited transaction history and a Smartbanking mobile app for iOS and Android. More advanced users can also use API banking via the Fio API Plus application — useful especially for businesses that want to connect their bank account directly to accounting or invoicing software and automate payment tracking.
Sign-up bonus
Unlike many competing business accounts that attract new customers with a one-off cash reward for opening an account or meeting certain activity requirements, Fio banka does not list any such welcome bonus for this account. The main value of the offer therefore isn't a one-time premium, but the fee structure itself — or rather its near-total absence for the whole time the account is used, not just in the first few months.
Who is this account for
The account makes the most sense for freelancers and smaller companies that need an everyday operating account with no monthly fee and no need to track whether they've met conditions for a waiver. It will also appeal to businesspeople who travel or trade abroad frequently and need to withdraw cash from ATMs outside the Czech Republic without extra charges, as well as companies that regularly pay into the eurozone and Slovakia, where they'll avoid international transfer fees. For businesses that keep their accounting in specialised software, linking the account via Fio API Plus may also be of interest.

Summary
Fio banka's business account is a straightforward choice for freelancers and smaller companies mainly concerned with keeping the everyday cost of running an account as low as possible — no monthly fee, free cards, free withdrawals abroad, and cheap payments into the eurozone and Slovakia. It lacks the sign-up bonus offered by some competitors, but for anyone looking for consistently low fees rather than a one-off reward, it provides a solid foundation for business banking.
