Air Bank Term Deposit: who it suits

Air Bank's term deposit is a classic fixed-term savings product with a guaranteed interest rate for the whole term. It suits savers who have free cash and can estimate in advance how long they can set it aside, and who want to grow it without the risk of the bank changing the rate mid-term — unlike a savings account, where the rate is variable. Air Bank offers the deposit in terms of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, so a client can pick the horizon that matches when they will need the money again.

Interest rates

The rate depends on the chosen term and, somewhat paradoxically, falls the longer the term:

  • 1 month: 3.7% p.a.
  • 3 months: 3.4% p.a.
  • 6 months: 3.0% p.a.
  • 12 months: 3.0% p.a.

The highest yield is therefore offered, paradoxically, by the shortest, one-month deposit, while the 6-month and 12-month variants share the same 3.0% p.a. rate. Anyone chasing the single highest figure only gets it on the shortest term — and after it matures they need to check the rate again, because renewal works differently (see below).

Minimum deposit and early withdrawal terms

The entry amount is CZK 30,000, with no upper limit stated — according to the product description the bank will grow a significantly larger amount without restriction. The deposit can be withdrawn early at any time free of charge: the bank returns the entire deposited amount immediately. Early withdrawal has a cost elsewhere, though — the right to that period's interest is forfeited, so the client only gets back the principal with no interest. It is therefore a trade-off between flexibility (no penalty, no fee) and yield (zero interest on early termination).

Once the agreed term ends, the deposit automatically renews for the same length of term, at the current rate valid on the renewal date — not necessarily the rate the deposit originally carried. Automatic renewal can be switched off at any time without losing interest already credited.

Verdict

Air Bank's term deposit is a simple, transparent product with no hidden fees: no charge for early withdrawal, no upper deposit limit, and a clearly defined rate structure by term length. The downside is that the top rate of 3.7% p.a. applies only to the shortest, one-month deposit — for the 6-month and 12-month variants, clients should expect only 3.0% p.a. Anyone wanting to grow money over a longer horizon without tracking renewals should compare this rate against current competitor offers, since term deposit rates change fairly often.

✓ Pros

  • 3.7% p.a. rate on the one-month deposit
  • No fee for early withdrawal
  • No upper deposit limit
  • Automatic renewal can be switched off anytime without losing interest

✕ Cons

  • The highest rate applies only to the shortest, one-month term
  • The 6-month and 12-month terms share the same 3.0% p.a. rate
  • Early withdrawal forfeits the entire period's accrued interest
  • The CZK 30,000 minimum deposit may be a barrier for small savers
