Air Bank Savings Account – Full Review
Air Bank's savings account is one of those products you can open quickly, without unnecessary entry conditions – the bank only requires you to be at least 15 years old. It's aimed at people who want a financial reserve kept separate from their current account, while still having free access to their money with no notice period. Air Bank does not require you to also hold a current account with them for this product.
Interest Rate and Its Conditions
The account's key feature is a bonus rate of 2.6% per year, but it isn't automatic – the bank only grants it when specific account activity is met. The balance-tier structure looks like this:
- Up to a balance of CZK 300,000 you get a rate of 2.6% per year, provided you make at least 5 card payments per month.
- The limit can be raised to CZK 500,000 at the same 2.6% per year rate, if in addition the total incoming payments on your accounts with the bank reach at least CZK 25,000 per month.
- Accounts held in foreign currencies (EUR, USD) carry a flat rate of 0.1% per year, with no bonus of any kind.
Neither on its website nor in the underlying data does Air Bank state what rate applies if you don't meet the five-card-payments-per-month condition. You therefore shouldn't assume the advertised 2.6% rate is reached automatically just by depositing money – it's a reward for active card use, not a guaranteed savings rate on its own.
Who the Higher CZK 500,000 Limit Suits
Raising the limit to half a million koruna makes most sense for clients who also route their regular income (salary or business payouts) through Air Bank – a one-off large balance without regular incoming payments won't meet the CZK 25,000-per-month condition.
Fees and Other Conditions
Opening and maintaining the account is free – the bank's website explicitly states that customers pay nothing to use the account. There is no minimum deposit requirement, and you can open the account regardless of whether you also hold a current account with Air Bank.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: free account opening and maintenance, access to your money with no notice period, can be opened from age 15 with no current-account requirement, the 2.6% limit can be raised to CZK 500,000.
- Cons: the bonus rate requires at least 5 card payments per month, the rate that applies if conditions aren't met isn't disclosed, the rate on EUR and USD accounts is only 0.1% per year, reaching the higher limit also requires tracking incoming payment volume.
Summary
Air Bank's savings account is an attractive option for clients who actively use a payment card with the bank and want a reserve with free maintenance and instant access to their money. A rate of 2.6% per year is solid by market standards, but it's a conditional bonus rather than a guaranteed rate for simply parking money – without at least five card payments a month, you may not reach it.
